About PC Bottleneck Calculator

Last updated: October 2026

PC Bottleneck Calculator is a free tool that estimates whether your CPU and GPU are well matched — and if not, which one is holding your system back. Pick your parts, and within seconds you get a bottleneck percentage, a system health score, and practical upgrade advice.

What this site does

  • The calculator. Select your CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution and workload to get an instant balance estimate with visual breakdowns and upgrade suggestions.
  • Hardware guides. Tier lists and buying guides for CPUs, GPUs, power supplies and accessories — written to help you pick parts that work well together.
  • Plain-language explainers. What bottlenecks actually are, how to read your result, and what to do about it.

How our estimates are made

Our calculator is score-based, not lab-measured. Every CPU and GPU in our database carries a performance score derived from public benchmark aggregates (review round-ups and hardware hierarchies), normalized onto a single 0–100 scale. The bottleneck percentage comes from the gap between those scores, adjusted for your resolution, memory and workload.

That makes our result a planning estimate — useful for comparing configurations and spotting obvious mismatches before you buy. It is not a guaranteed FPS measurement. Cooling, drivers, power limits, game engines and background software all move real-world results by a few points either way, and we say so wherever the number appears.

What we don't do

This is the part most hardware sites won't write down, so we will:

  • No fake "tested & reviewed" claims. We don't own a test lab, and we won't pretend we benchmarked thirty graphics cards in a warehouse. Our guides are built from manufacturer specifications and public benchmark data, and we say exactly that.
  • No fabricated numbers. You won't find made-up FPS tables or invented review scores here. Where we cite performance, it's relative tiers from our own component database or clearly labeled public data.
  • No invented people. There's no "senior editor" with a stock photo. The site speaks in one brand voice.
  • No paid placements disguised as rankings. If a product appears in a tier list, it's there on merit. Affiliate links (when active) never change the order.

Why we built it

Most bottleneck calculators hide weak component databases behind confident percentages — missing current-generation cards, duplicating entries, never updating. We started this project to build the version we'd want to use: a current database, an honest methodology, and results framed as estimates instead of gospel.

If you spot a component with a wrong score or a missing model, tell us — the database is updated regularly, and corrections go straight in.
